TiVo Finally Goes HD

Posted by Duch | 10:45 am

TiVo Goes HDTiVo announced last week that they now finally support HDTV but for many this is way too late and they have already made the switch. But if you still haven’t made the switch to HDTV and can’t stand to shell out even more money to your local cable company the new TiVo box may be the one you’re looking for. The TiVo Series3 HD Box ($800) is the first TiVo to include support for HD — it can record two HD shows while allowing you to watch another at the same time, thanks to the built-in CableCard slots (two of ‘em) and its support for ATSC. Other improvements include a new backlit remote, THX certification, an OLED screen, HDMI and component video output, and optical digital audio out. It might be a little expensive for those with standard TVs, but if you’ve made the jump to HD, it’s a no-brainer.

P40 Articulated Chair

Posted by Duch | 11:37 am

P40 ChairThis super adjustable lounge chair may be super pricey, but it’s also super swank. Designed by Osvaldo Borsani way back in 1954 and still way stylish today, the P40 Articulated Chair ($6,500) features an adjustable headrest, movable rubber armrests, an extending footrest, and a bunch of joints that can be folded numerous ways. You can keep it in a lounge position to relax and read a book or fold it up so it becomes a chair to work at your desk. Way cool.

Sony Vaio N Series LaptopOn Wednesday Sony announced a sleek new laptop in three colors(black, white, and brown), dubbed the Vaio N Series. The first thing you’ll notice is that the new Vaio N Series look very similiar to the Apple MacBooks. Very disappointing seeing how Sony has been able to produce quality original designs.

The laptop was “conceived with the ‘culturally creative’ individual in mind, who is focused on an ‘organic lifestyle,’” and is “designed to accent your interior design, as well as your life.” So basically the same people Apple is targetting but Windows users.

The new systems will come with Windows Vista-capable (select models are Windows Vista Premium ready) and features Intel Core Duo processors and WiFi (802.11 a/b/g). A built-in DVD burner, 15.4-inch widescreen display, and Sony’s DVgate Plus software allow for easy video editing and sharing. Two USB 2.0 ports and a Memory Stick port round out the package.

Nutrisystem For Men

Posted by Duch | 11:17 am

Nutrisystem for MenWhile there are quite a few of us out there that could stand to lose a couple of pounds, there aren’t a whole lot of diets out there aimed at men. Companies like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers can be used by men no problem, but are embarassing for us because their too women-centric. What man would rightfully say that they are on the Jenny Craig diet.

Nutrisystem has developed a diet specificially for Men. It’s a no hassle, no thought system because it does the work for you by sending you a month’s worth of food that is ready to heat and serve. The amount of food is carefully calculated to contain the right balance of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fats to ensure your waistline shrinks. You also won’t get jipped by eating just oatmeal everyday, it lets you eat burgers, pizza, hot dogs, lasagna, pot roast, tacos, and scrambled eggs?

Although I’m not too sure about eating frozen food for a month straight, it could be a great system to learn from, things like what is good to eat, the portion size, and the time of day to eat.

Vitamin DWe spend so much time focusing on the outside of our bodies with stuff like skin care, hair gels, clothes, shoes, that sometimes we forget about taking care of the inside. I’m guilty myself but I’m trying to slowly change myself, and when it comes to your health it’s never too late to try to live a healthier lifestyle. So I was interested in the recent study by Harvard that showed if you take the recommended daily intake of Vitamin D lowers risk of pancreatic cancer by 43%. A pretty big finding, seeing how pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of death from cancer in the United States, affecting an estimated 32,000 people. It is also one of the most deadly seeing only five percent of them will survive past five years.

While Vitamin D is made by the body when in contact with sunlight, you’ll need to supplement with milk, sory, fish, eggs, and liver to get the daily suggested amount.

Winemaking Goes High-Tech

Posted by Duch | 10:58 am

The WinePodWinemaking is a process steep in tradition, so when I found out about the WinePod the high-tech way to make wine I was a bit thrown off, thinking what kind of winemaker would buy this thing. But what do I know because I’ve never brewed any of that stuff either. Then it hit me, the WinePod is for people like me who want an easy way into winemaking and don’t want to bother with the messy process.

The WinePod is basically a huge aluminum vessel with an automatic grape presser inside. The machine interfaces with your computer thanks to the built in wifi to monitor things like pH level, temperature, and sugar levels. And then the software will ask you basic questions and guide you on what you should do next - how easy is that!

And just to prove that I was initially wrong about the WinePod, it has been a huge hit and they can’t make them fast enough. New customers are still on a waiting list until April 2007.

Microsoft's ZuneAfter a couple months of plenty of rumors and spy shots about Microsoft’s take on an iPod-killer, they have officially announced their answer and its name is Zune. The iPod rival features music and video playback, 30GB of storage, Wi-Fi, a built-in FM tuner and a 3-inch color screen. The Zune will come in three colors — black, brown and white. The killer feature which may actually see The Zune blow the iPod out of the water is the ability to wireless share music with other Zune users, who can then listen to that song three times and then you will be required to purchase it. Obviously a feature to keep the RIAA off of Microsoft’s case, but like with everything else Microsoft there will be an army of crackers that will most likely crack this 3x play feature pretty quickly.

As much as I and everyone else likes to hate on Microsoft, The Zune seems like a revolutionary player unlike the latest iPods that were just announced.

The Best Time to Buy Everything

Posted by Duch | 11:13 am

BroadwaySmartMoney has released what could be the ultimate guide for the bargain shopper. Like the name suggest, it provides us with the best time to save on a particular item. Need to buy a plane ticket, the article suggest to buy on a Wednesday, 21 days before your flight. The reasoning is very simple, at the 21 day mark is where airlines try to rush to fill seats and that typically on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning is when they make their pricing changes. Going to broadway? Why not headover to TKTS booth in Times Square where you can easily get prime seats for half the price.

Logitech Harmony 1000 RemoteAnyone with a home theatre setup would know all about the joys of having to use three of four controllers just to switch from watching your PVR to a DVD movie. Yeah it’s a huge hassle until I got my Logitech Harmony 8800 Remote. Harmony is the perfect word for this device, it did it all and was so easy to setup and use. The only drawback was the big price, kind of hard to spend a few hundred dollars on a remote when you get one free with the hardware already. Let’s just say it’s well worth the money.

So when Logitech released the new Harmony 1000 Universal Remote I was pretty excited. This thing looks way high-tech, with its brushed aluminum design and 3.5” color touch-screen. Long gone are the dozens of buttons, seems like everything will be made easier with the touch-screen. The Harmony 1000 retails for $500, very steep but I guess early adopters won’t have much trouble spending that sort of cash.

Mercedes Benz AMG CL 63Mercedes-Benz is slowing taking this year’s Paris Motor Show with debuts of two high end and high-performance, the CL 63 AMG and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition. The latest version of the CL-Class is making its public debut under the slogan “The Virtuoso Luxury Coupé”. Don’t really get the slogan but all I know this thing is all business, under the hood is a AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine that puts out 525hp and 630 lbs of torque. But we can’t forget AMG isn’t just about power, you can also find in the new CL 63 AMG the unmistakable AMG bodystyling, upgraded AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control, and to stop it all the AMG high-performance braking system.

All this power adds up to the CL 63 AMG doing 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Geisha House LA

Posted by Duch | 8:05 pm

Geisha HouseIf you’re not a big fan of reality television you may have not seen or care Mike ‘Boogie’ win last night’s Big Brother: All Stars. But if you know anything about hot restaurants, you may have heard of Dolce Enoteca one of the hottest restaurants in Los Angeles. A lot of is due to the great food and atmosphere but being part owned by Ashton Kutcher doesn’t hurt either. Another part owner is Mike Malin or Mike ‘Boogie’, yes the winner of last night’s Big Brother. Somehow he convinced six other people to give him half a million to someone already a millionaire over some poor middle-aged yoga teacher.

As a tribute to the pure awesomeness of Mike ‘Boogie’, second most famous person to come out Concord, Massachusetts, I’m going to profile another hot restaurant of his, Geisha House. Geisha House is a modern take on Japanese Restaurant, Sushi Bar and Sake Lounge that combines both traditional Japan while catering to the hipsters of LA. Everything oozes sexiness in this place, from the front mural of a geisha’s lips to the intimate dining lounge flooded in hot red lighting. A must visit if you love sushi and are in the Hollywood area.

Buy Sell Hold DieSo it’s not just me that when investing in stocks it feels more of roll of the dice than anything else. The Buy, Sell, Hold die from Tiffany & Co. is a half-inch sterling silver cube with the words, “BUY”, “SELL”, and “HOLD” on each side.

It only retails for $75, a paltry fee compared to what you shell out in brokerage and stock broker fees, and I bet it would work as well. Hell I bet your stock broker has one on the desk right now, and for the past year him or her have been giving you advice on a roll of a dice.

The Good, The Bad, And The Queen

Posted by Duch | 10:42 am

The Good, The Bad, and The QueenThe Good, the Bad and the Queen is the name of Damon Albarn’s current side project. Damon Albarn is famous for being the frontman of the now on indefinite hiatus Blur and also the voice and genius behind The Gorillaz. Initially reported as a solo album by Albarn with Danger Mouse producing, NME revealed in late July 2006 that the solo project was switched to a new group formed by Albarn. The group, which consists of Albarn, The Clash’s bassist Paul Simonon, former Verve guitarist Simon Tong, and Nigerian-born drummer Tony Allen.

I don’t get Damon Albarn’s obsession with Clint Eastwood but what I do know is his new side project is getting plenty of buzz. Their debut show at the famous Roundhouse in London sold out in only 30 minutes. Fans who couldn’t get a ticket will be able to watch the live performance on one of the BBC channels. As for the rest of us, we wil justl have to wait until October 30th when their first single, ‘Herculean’ drops.
